Where the Church is the People

Where the Church is the People

This month we publically launch NineSevenZero Church. We come out of the closet and announce to our community that we exist. But make no mistake this isn’t the “start” of our church, just our formal introduction. NineSevenZero Church is a new church emerging in the Grand Valley. And while this launch has us consumed for the moment, we’re not working to create an organizational entity. We believe that the church is not a building or a denomination. We believe that the Church is the People. We see our work and commission to create disciples (followers) of Jesus. Yes some will choose to band together under the banner of NineSevenZero Church for purposes of spiritual growth, meaningful service, worship and fellowship, but that is just a natural byproduct of the process of creating disciples. The creation and growth of a church is always measured in the spiritual life and health of its members because the Church is the People. #wherethechurchisthepeople

From the beginning of time God commissioned his creation to be fruitful and multiply and thereby fill the Earth with His glory. It’s how he designed every living thing. Each containing the seed of the next generation. Each creating more of it’s kind. God’s intent was to fill the Earth with His glory through all living things (Rom 1:19-20) and most specifically through His image bearers, men and women (Gen 1:26-27). As the result of the Fall of humanity into sin and rebellion God sent His Son, Jesus, as his image bearer to a broken world to reveal Himself and the way of salvation. And after Jesus’ ascension He commissioned his followers to be His image bearers, to proclaim His Good News and make more disciples so that the Kingdom would be revealed and God glorified in all the world (Matt 28:18-20).

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” – Jn 20:21 (ESV)
