Fishin’ Is Better With A Buddy

Fishin’ Is Better With A Buddy

“Fish with a buddy – it’s nice to have someone to grab the net.”

I do enjoy the solitude of fishing by myself. It’s rejuvenating and refreshing but they usually aren’t my most productive ventures. For maximum results and fun – bring a friend. I can’t count the times that I realized that, by myself, I didn’t have what it takes. I didn’t have enough hands or couldn’t troll and fish at the same time. It’s just nice to have a friend along, because:

  • When you get a big one, they can grab the net
  • When you’re stuck in the weeds they can help paddle
  • When nothing in your box is working you can always borrow something
  • When you’re in unfamiliar territory it’s nice not to be alone
  • When you hit a snag, sometimes you need help
  • When one gets away, it’s nice to have a witness
  • I rarely laugh when I’m alone

When we hit a snag or our line is broken as reach out with the Gospel to our family and friends, we need to remember, Kingdom fishing can be more fun and more productive with a friend. The fact is – evangelism is team-oriented. God rarely uses just one person to bring someone through the entire process of coming to faith in Him. More often, He orchestrates a number of people, circumstances and events to lovingly move a person toward Christ. There is also a synergistic effect when we work in tandem with others. It’s like 1+1 is greater than 2.

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 1 Corinthians 3:5–8 (ESV)

So grab your fishn’ buddy and do a little tag-team evangelism.
