That You May Tell

That You May Tell

next genLove the exaltation of Psalm 48. You can’t help but sense that their deliverance is fresh and that in the face of impending doom their God not only protected them but also routed their enemy. It is the song of one who is on the backside of threat, trial and attack. But it is also significant that the song was not just a celebration of the now but also a powerful declaration to the generations that would follow – Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised – Ps 48:1.

The Psalmist encourages them to walk about the city, look around and take inventory. The city had been threatened but yet is unscathed. The enemy had advanced but their God had risen to their defense. He tells them to “consider well” the testimony of God’s deliverance all around them. Not just to celebrate their salvation but declare God’s greatness to the generations.

Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation. – Ps 48:12–13.

Every advance, every victory is not just for those who battle that day. They are opportunities for us to boast of the the greatness of our God and to declare to the world and the the generations to come – Psalm 48:14

Declare His Lordship – “For this God is our God forever”
Declare Our Dependance – “He will be our guide ”
Declare Our Commitment –“Even to the end”

Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. – Ps 71:18
