Incarnating the Gospel in 2015

Here’s some simple things that if you are intentional about them in 2015 will help you live your life more missionally and incarnate (put flesh on) the Gospel with those who you work and live with. Make these ideas more than just a resolution. Make them goals with actionable tasks that you measure and monitor.

1. Things You Are Already Doing Opportunities

Hospitality

• Invite non-believing friends over for a meal.
• Invite non-believing friends over for a game or movie night (with snacks).
• Throw a “Matthew” party (Christians bring food and a non-believing friend).

Activity Oriented Opportunities

• Invite people to join in your hobby / interest
• Doing something fun? Invite a non-believing friend.
• Exercise with a non-believing friend.
• Ask a friend to help you complete a project in exchange for helping them with one.
• Ask a non-believing friend to minister or volunteer with you.

2. Just Being a Friend Opportunities

• Pray for people (healing, needs, loss, recovery, decision making, protection).
• Invite friends, co-workers and neighbors to church.
• Celebrate their victories and major life events (send cards, notes, eCards).
• Mourn with people in their loss (pray with them, sorrow with them).
• Offer free baby-sitting for non-believing couples so they can have a date night.

3. Social Media Opportunities

• Offer encouragement and God’s perspective (truth and grace without judgment).
• Post Scripture that is meaningful to you and tell them why.
• Re-post/pin articles and items that are God honoring and faith building.
• Acknowledge God in your life:
  • Thanks for answered prayers, blessings, healings, miracles
  • The difference that God makes in your daily/work life
  • What you are believing God for
• Like the church page and SignIn when you are at church (this will make your mom or grandma happy).
• Tweet / post points or statements from the sermons or church blog posts.
• Send eCards (ninesevenzerochurch.org and crosscards.com).

4. The Gospel Incarnated (the Gospel with flesh on)

• Radical obedience to God (attitude, words, actions)
• Relationship with God a Priority (people of the Word that live in the presence of God)
• Take every thought captive to Christ (2 Cor 10:5)
• Serve and love others humbly (expecting nothing in return)
