Slaying Giants

Slaying Giants

When the Israelite spies came back from the Promised Land they reported that it was filled with giants. Their inheritance was inhabited. Most wanted to follow the majority report and give up. After all, it’s a big world and there are lots of easier places to settle. Milk and honey would probably be too rich a diet anyway. What’s wrong with water and mana? But isn’t that how it is for us too? There are often giants keeping us from entering into everything that God has promised us.

David was incensed by the threats and contemptuous insults of Goliath against Israel and God.Goliath had been taunting Israel for some time. There were other “slingers” out there. Other warriors had more skill, but David was the only one who spoke up and stepped up to the challenge.

We shouldn’t be surprised. Jesus said that we would have struggles and trials in this life but that we don’t need to be afraid because he has overcome the world. We need to stop surviving and start overcoming and conquering. David didn’t just defeat the enemy, he destroyed him! Jesus didn’t just defeat sin on the cross, He destroyed it! All the power of sin was destroyed.

The giants we face have names like: Fear. Discouragement. Worry. Guilt. Temptation. Doubt. Failure. Isn’t it about time we stand tall and face the giants in our lives? This series is our training ground. We’ll pull out the heavy artillery: the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; the helmet of salvation; the shield of faith. Above all, we’ll go with God Himself, who always makes two promises before sending us out to grapple with giants: He will always be with us and He will empower us for the battle.

Come learn from Moses, Joshua, Abraham, Isaiah, David, the Apostles and other giant slayers. The Israelites said, “Goliath is too large to defeat.” But David said, “He’s too large to miss.” Join us as we prepare to do battle in the land of giants starting Sunday, January 7th at 9:30am.
