2013-05-06 19.52.02Grand Junction is the heart of the Grand Valley and is the regional center of the Western Slope of Colorado. It is also the largest community on the I-70/I-15 corridor between Denver and Salt Lake City. While the general population of the Grand Valley is decidedly conservative, they are less likely to profess a faith preference or have any involvement with a church when compared to national averages. Christian influence is on the decline while the Mormon church is expanding in the area. The culture can be characterized as fiercely independent and highly entrepreneurial. The local economies have been hard hit by the current recession and the 2008 pullout by the oil and gas industries.

Since Grand Junction is the regional economic, financial, political, medical and academic hub of the Western Slope, it is of strategic importance to the Kingdom. There are tens of thousands of people who have never heard the Gospel or know of God’s great love for them. There are also thousands who have either been hurt by the church or have concluded that the Christian church is not relevant to their lives. The Grand Valley is ready for a faith community that demonstrates God’s love, proclaims His truth,  and reveals His soon coming Kingdom.

2013-06-01 17.08.14Church planting is a daunting task. Church planters must develop strategic plans, cultivate partnerships, gather a core group, recruit and train leadership, cast vision, and more. And then there are the costs financial, relational, emotional and spiritual.

That’s why successful planting must include prayer as an essential component to the work.  Planting churches is far more than a strategic work… it is a spiritual work and a healthy church planting vision encompasses both strategy and empowerment. From the earliest days of the church to modern church planting movements, prayer has been inextricable … and therefore prayer must be a central component of our planting efforts.

Consider this: the early church was born in a prayer meeting. One hundred and twenty believers waited ten days in the Upper Room, “all joined together constantly in prayer” (Acts 1:14) in anticipation of the promised Holy Spirit, who would anoint and empower them, resulting in thousands of converts and an explosive launch of the Church. They prayed for boldness to speak the gospel, and after they prayed “the place where they were meeting was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly” (Acts 4:29-31). The church crossed the cultural and geographic barriers and has been expanding ever since through the power and leading of the Holy Spirit.

We are convinced that the key to any spiritual break-though in the Grand Valley will be passionate and persevering prayer. Therefore, we are looking to recruit Prayer Partners who will commit to regularly pray with us for the Grand Valley, our church plant and those on the Launch Team. Friends who will not give up petioning God for His Kingdom to be revealed in us and this place. Will you pray with us? If so, please complete and send the signup form below.
