When They’re Runnin’, It’s Time To Go Fishin’

When They’re Runnin’, It’s Time To Go Fishin’

“When they’re runnin’, it’s time to go fishin’.”

Before coming to Colorado we lived in Wisconsin. Each year the walleye and white bass would make their runs up the Fox and Wolf Rivers and during those times it was shoulder to shoulder fishing off every bridge in town. We knew if the fish were running there would be high concentrations of hungry fish passing under every bridge thus increasing the potential to land one and more than likely a bucket full.

Thanksgiving is over and one of the best Kingdom fishing “bridge” opportunities is fast approaching, the Christmas season. It’s a season filled with strong emotions and serious evaluations of relationships and self. For some it’s filled with joy and love, others find it empty and hollow, still others find it filled with pain and disappointment. It’s a season filled with family, friends and loneliness. It’s a season where God’s example of love, sacrifice and relationship invade even the secular world. It’s a season filled with a concentration of strategic Kingdom opportunities.

Let your vision and planning for your holiday get-togethers with family, friends, neighbors, classmates, and co-workers take on a new perspective. Consider the Kingdom opportunity in each of these activities and let the love of Christ bring new meaning to every part of this season. Don’t settle for the empty commercialism that the world serves up. Remind yourself often that the best and most valuable gift one could ever receive is the Gift of Christmas, Jesus, and determine to serve Him up throughout the season. God has uniquely positioned each of us in the world to reach out to some that He loves. Most of our friends and acquaintances are just waiting for an invitation so use the seasonal celebrations and the relational opportunities to create a loving bridge to Christ.

If you want to catch fish, wouldn’t you want to fish when they are runnin’ ?
